Honestly, it's most political. It's moving from a valence issue among the electorate to one that may actually decide an election. Hence, the Cons and Libs trying to out-green and outspend the other.
From a citizen's perspective, we do have a problem in this country with pollution and greenhouse gases. Yes, we only produce 2%, but we have like ... what .5% of the global population. Alberta and Southern Ontario producing by far the majority of that CO2 as well.
There is also the economic aspect, with the whole world going green, Canada should try to stay on the cutting edge of green techonological and business solutions.
