I think staying in Calgary would be very appealing for Gaudreau. He knows the organization, he knows the City, has publicly said he is happy here on a number of occasions. No question, the Flames are going to have to pay but I would think there is as good a chance as any other team to sign him. Plus the Flames can give him that 8th year. If things don’t work out here, he and the team can always look to move on from one another. Despite the fact people think Treliving has royally screwed this up, he probably has a much better grasp on what is at stake than anyone here does. He doesn’t seem too panicked to me and I’m not seeing/hearing anything from credible sources that say Gaudreau has one foot out the door.

Wouldn't be surprised if Johnny and Tre have already talked and have a mutual agreement in place. This would explain why there doesn't seem to be panic or concern on either side. Johnny seems happy and is playing hard doing everything the coach is asking him. He indicated he wants to stay if the team wants to keep him. Looking at how the team is playing right now is a bonus.
