That was fun! So much fan service but still a quality film with emotion.
Funny how everyone praised the MCU after Homecoming for skipping the Spider-man origin story but it turns out they were just giving it to us over a trilogy instead. I enjoyed the Peter Parker character arc and, unlike many MCU films, we got an actual 3rd act that wasn't just a big fight scene but also provided a conclusion with real consequences.
I was worried there were too many villains but it mostly worked. Dafoe especially stole his scenes and ditching the mask plus the interaction with May upgrades his Goblin to the best Spidey villain. Molina was also great and I enjoyed the happier ending to the Doc Ock story. On the other hand Foxx's Electro was just kind of there as a baddie, although I loved the new look, with Lizard and Sandman not having much to do.
The best part of course was the interaction between the three Spider-Men. So many funny references when they were telling stories to each other. Nice it wasn't just cameos but important parts of the movie that were integral to the Holland Parker's arc. Maguire was solid as the older more stoic spider-man while Garfield hit his more angsty insecure spider-man out the park. This really shows how much Garfield was perfect for the role but let down badly by the Sony writers.
The action was fun too. My favourite parts were Spider-man defeating Doctor Strange, the iron spider suit against Doc Ock, and that iconic shot of the three Spideys at the end. It felt like this is the best Spider-man action we have ever seen as it was able to portray both the agility and extreme force involved in a web slinging attack.
The movie is too ambitious at times cramming a lot into 150 minutes and it's best not to think about the plot, with everything explained because magic, but NWH is an enjoyable ride that is a must watch for any MCU or Spider-man fan. 9/10.
