Reviews took a weird turn in general a few years ago. There was a time 5-10 years ago that a 90-95% RT movie was usually going to be a must see movie. I don't know if it was Disney buying out the reviewers for all their properties, but it turned into everything half decent was over 90%.
Now it seems that the 90% movies are entirely bland, expensive movies, and a few solid art house movies. The 40-60% movies are often the more thought provoking, interesting movies. Maybe the better movies have some critics love them and some hate them? Maybe there is enough critics in the theaters and studio camps that hate expensive Netflix (and not theater releases), maybe Disney own all the critics? Whatever it is, I think there are lots of great movies that don't have great critic scores these days.
