The problem is that using the phrases "checking all the boxes" and "woke" when referring to minority characters being given staring roles in sci-fi and superhero TV/movies is an issue. There's a segment of fandom that uses those terms when a popular character is given a female or minority alternate or someone of a different ethnicity is cast as a character who is white in the original source material.
We've mostly seen characters on the big screen who were created in the 50s/60s/70s to target white kids with extra pocket money. It's fine to update them to target a wider audience without getting upset that they don't look the same as they did when you read the comics.
So now we have a character who was created 22 years ago as a Native American, deaf, woman (with 2 legs) introduced as a supporting character, who is getting her own series, and suddenly they're checking minority boxes.
In the comics Echo was actually Ronin for a time, so having her introduced in Hawkeye makes perfect sense. If Daredevil didn't get cancelled I'm sure she would have shown up there first.
If you get a chance, read some of her stories. Especially the Daredevil stuff. It's great.
