If someone is calculating every cost and trying to split it according to what they thing should be totally fair you’re looking at an utterly miserable experience IMO.

I think it’s about the mindset. I was raised to pay my share and not take advantage of people. So I’m always mindful of what I got and what I owe. I’d be embarrassed to let my friends pay extra for me. For a lot of people, they’re happy to take advantage of even close friends or family if it means they save a buck.
That’s why I think its more important to be on the same page as people as far as how money is spent. The absolute worst are the people who want to live large and order champagne and lobster at every meal but insist the bill always only be split evenly, even when the rest of the table only ordered a glass of wine and the chicken. We’ve all met these “Only cheap people look at the bill” people who then of course only use it to rip off their friends and have them subsidize their expensive tastes that they don’t want to pay for.
