Remember that best comedy of each decade discussion? Damn Austin Powers is up there. One of those movies like Ace Ventura that crossed over from just a movie and became a cultural phenomenon. Austin Powers is interesting because that culture phenomenon didn't start at the box office but with DVD sales. Some people saw the first one, those people loved it spread word of mouth and massive DVD sales... than The Spy Who Shagged Me was massive.
But yeah, the franchise was huge. It directly lead to Casino Royale taking a more serious approach forcing them to ditch the cliche and ever increasing silliness of the Bronson lead Bond
