Alberta isn't locked down and hasn't been since the initial outbreak almost two years ago. We had a roll up on restrictions as our healthcare system was pushed to the absolutely brink last Christmas but that's it. Yeah, things are changed, you have to show documentation to do certain things, and I'm fine with that. I've learnt to live with it, most people have, but we absolutely cannot allow things roll out of control that everyones healthcare is in jeopardy.
No, lockdowns didn't permanently stop anything but the messaging has never been that, it's been simple to slow the spread, and that's what they do.
Burying ones head in the sand going "LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT!" is nonsense, ignorant nonsense

I'm not shouting at anyone to "learn to live with it". That's the reality and that's from scientists. In fact this has been suggested since as early as 2020, but, most serious people in the field have accepted and been preaching this earlier this year. It's mutating far too fast and we didn't do a good enough job vaccinating the developing world.

There's an absolute ton of material out there, this is just a small sample size.
Instead of shutting down society for a virus that we have effective vaccines we're going to have to build up our medical infrastructure to handle the occasional wave of unvaxxed people who clog up the ICU's. I really feel for people who can't get the jab and want to, but, we can't shut down planet Earth in perpetuity for a small group of people. Maybe that sounds harsh but that's the pragmatic reality. Feel free to say I want to kill old people and etc if it makes you feel better to classify me as "the enemy" or "heartless". But we need to start accepting reality. I used to think my 4 and 5 year old would only know about COVID through an email journal I'm writing for them. Now I realize they'll grow up with it as part of their lexicon. Every year there will likely be a new strain and a new booster. We sadly have added a new more dangerous flu to our existing seasonal illnesses.
