After coming into this cold on the content, I found the first ~ 4 episodes very dry, I had a hard time identifying with or caring about the characters. But they are getting there now.

Right around the time of the funeral, two of them being captured by the whites, and the dagger making the other guy sick, I finally actually started to care about the characters a little bit. I think this show might survive the slow start, because of a built in fan base. But for normal content you've got to make people care about your characters a lot faster than 4 hours into the show. It might really prevent this show from becoming the big monoculture event Amazon hoped for, might also hurt the budget for future seasons.

In my opinion the set design and costuming are also not great, they are too clean, too clever, they just come off as uncanny because they don't looked lived in. IMO you can get away with just about anything in costuming, as long as it looks like something someone can and has worn, I generally buy that people could live in this world, I just don't buy that people have lived in this world when I look at it.
