The problem is you then start duplicating all the ancillary stuff as well, like heat and AC. So the tradeoff is running the ICE. if it's mostly sitting at idle rpm's, it probably isn't burning much gas anyway. Nothing is going to be perfect for the next 10 years, there will be tradeoffs.
