Some claiming the olympics are about sport are completely with their heads in the sand. Everything about it is political. The IOC has been corrupt for who knows how long. The "have" countries pump endless money to showcase their own countries athletes to grandstand. The less wealthy countries can't afford to pump but do what they can. All in all it's about TV rights in different countries so it's all about bragging rights and money. It sucks for athletes who train and can't showcase themselves but you know what you're getting into when you're becoming an athlete on that stage.
As much as I want to see McDavid and Crosby on one line, I just want China to get second rate ratings. While every country is shameful with what they do within their borders at various points, China wants to promote themselvs as something they are not, and that persona helps gain them contracts. They're moving too fast on shoddy human rights standards and that should be critiqued. I'm all for North America and the world shunning them in this situation.
