I have a friend who skies for the Canadian team and they were recently in China for a pre-Olympic qualifier. The stories she is telling of how they were treated from the point of getting off the plane to finally leaving China are crazy! They had an armed escort with them (turns out, not for their safety but to enforce the rules) that wouldn’t allow them to use the washrooms either in the airport or on the road to the venue. The team had to wait over 8 hours after getting off a 10 hour flight before finally being fed and being able to use a washroom. She says they were peeing in bottles on the bus. Anyway, I know cry me a river, but I guess how the team was treated from start to finish was super disrespectful and on the way back up to Canada there was discussion on whether or not they would return to china as a ski team to be treated that way again.
