That's why the comparison to a defenseless receiver in football really doesnt apply...moving way faster and less time to change trajectory without putting himself in danger of injury.
Unfortunate outcome for sure, but hockey is such a fast game played by large humans that this kind of thing is unavoidable at times. This was one of those times.

I get that but it doesn't mean you can't give the player 5 and a game for what is a clean but predatory hit. The league needs to constantly evolve and they have done a good job as fighting is nearly out of the game and players like Scott Stevens, Matt Cooke, Ulf Samuelsson, Raffi Torres, etc are no longer welcome in the game. There's still room to improve and make the game safer.
