I think the general consensus is that many suicides are impulsive decisions that are made in a "heat of the moment" kind of way. That is why a Suicide hotline is an effective tool in preventing suicides.

I know a few people that have tried to commit suicide. Some have succeeded, others not. The ones who failed, have not tried again.

I think that is different than medically assisted dying.

I know you didn't ask me, but i would agree that i support medically-assisted suicide and we as a society need a much healthier view of death and dying while also saying that if i saw someone trying to commit suicide, i would try to stop them.
