He is a 3rd liner. I like that he is RHed but he isn’t worth giving up on Dube for. Don’t get me wrong for the right RW I would trade him but Brown isn’t him IMO.

And Toffoli is worth Valimaki and a 1st? That’s too steep for a 2nd liner.

I do want Toffoli though, just not at that price.
If Valimaki + 1st + a UFA contract in Zad is too much for Toffoli than colour me surprised. You have to give to get and while I do think the grass will be greener on the other side of Valimaki’s development you have to consider the window we are in now and if Valimaki can get you a piece that pushes you further ahead now the Flames would be foolish not to do it.

The last time the team pushed all in it was for Jokinen at the cost of a 1st and Lombardi and also cap flexibility so I understand that it’s a big decision that needs to be over analyzed but the Flames find themselves with a coach and a roster that is as close to being a contender as this franchise has had in quite sometime so I’d happily dangle players like Dube and Valimaki along with the 1st to bring in players that make us better now.

Connor brown right now is better than Dube and has a decent contract for the rest of this year and next, fits the contending window and had good chemistry with Mangiapane at the worlds regardless of that being overhyped. It also wouldn’t be the first time we attempted to land Brown who was reportedly part of the Kadri deal that got axed by Kadri. I agree that Dube has more growth and potential to achieve and when he was suggested for DeBrusk I didn’t agree with it but that’s because DeBrusk is a lefty and a free agent at the end of the year where as Brown has another year of control, has also scored 20+ a couple times, is only 27, is a righty… lots to like.

I just feel that Treliving has found himself in a remarkable position to go all in with this roster when many at the start of the year including myself felt that he had wasted the opportunity of ever contending with this roster. It only makes sense for him to push his chips all in at this point.
