I really liked the OS movies except for V which was really bad.

But Wrath of Khan, SFS and VH was a near perfect trilogy of Trek. VI was awesome with the concept of the crew aging and reaching the end. I loved Scotty grumbling that he just bought a boat.

While there were some bright moments in the Generation movies they just really don't compare.

The real strength of the OS series was that they just had really strong villains.

Khan was iconic, who knew that Mr Roarke could play a man consumed by grief vengeance and ego. In the search for Spock Christopher Lloyd was a surprise but a great scenery chewing villain. In UC how could you go wrong with Chritopher Plummer chewing scenery as a Shakespeare quoting enemy.
