There is an independence trail through the city, it's a red line you can follow through the city from the harbour (the warship there is cool to see) to boston common where you can have a beer at the bull and finch (the cheers bar). This path covers the old north church, quincey market etc etc. It is worth the time it take to walk it. Also you can go up the Han tower and it gives you a great few of the city and you can get a good audio tour of the city with some history.
It is one of my favourite cities. The resturants in the north end are some of the best I've been to.
