  • Patrick Kane has had multiple issues related to physical and sexual assault.
  • Tony Deanglo is a very vocal right-wing nut job.
  • Jeff Carter and Mike Richards had severe partying issues that got both of them kicked out of Philly.
  • Tyler Seguin was kicked out of Boston for his partying issues.
All of these players, except for Deangelo, have cup rings and long careers, and there many more "problem children" that could be listed here.

Scorned (and crazy) ex-wife and occasional questionable life choices aside, E. Kane is exactly the type of player on the ice that the Flames need to fill the last Top 6 winger spot. Treliving should be working the phones damn hard to score him on a good deal with salary retained. Getting a hard-nosed 30-goal sniper for $4-5M for the next three years would be a great deal.

Plus, when was the last time that Sutter let a "problem child" wreck his team?
Okay I get your point, but that comparison isn't really fair.

I mean, who cares if Jagr likes to sleep around, so what? It's his life and I can't remember him ever being accused of being abusive. Gambling is also a private issue as long as you don't bet on your own game. This is not the same as being accused of being abusive and betting on your own games.

No one ever suggested that Seguin, Richards or Carter partied so hard it threatened their careers. Also these guys were in their twenties, Kane is 30.

As for Patrick Kane, I don't think there's been any new controversies in like a decade now? And the only public accusation of sexual assault against him was a proven hoax. He did admit to punching a taxi driver when he was 21. While not okay, generally people don't think that's the same as being abusive towards multiple partners over multiple years.

Is Evander going to get another chance? I would say probably yes, but I do think he also might end up being the exception. First of all, he's expensive, not many teams can afford him, and many GM's will shy away from the risk at that price tag.

Second, and this is something which I think is somewhat unique about Kane: it's not just that he can't stay out of trouble, he also can't keep things quiet. Teams can look the other way only as long as things don't get public.

Third, he doesn't seem to have friends in the hockey world, not even party friends. It's not a deal breaker on it's own, but it does decrease his odds.

Lastly, none of those guys were accused of betting on their own games. That raises questions about possible match fixing, and that's a big one. Any GM's that think those accusations might have some truth in them will stay the hell away from Evander.
