Here's a "highlight" video from when he was producing wins in Pittsburgh:



To be fair, a lot of them are great saves as would be expected on a highlight video, but a lot of them also display his poor economy of movement and positioning. He often had to make breathtaking saves when he shouldn't have.

I think the book was out on him pretty quickly. He relies heavily on reflexes and athleticism, but if you can get him moving around, he almost always loses the net. He also flops more than most goalies and leaves the top of the net exposed.

Miikka Kiprusoff actually played a similar style, but his reflexes and athleticism were unmatched at the time, and he didn't lose the net nearly as often. But once age caught up to him and his reflexes slowed just a bit, it was a pretty fast decline. Injuries could be a factor with Murray causing the decline sooner, but the style as a whole tends not to be sustainable.
