They wasted such a huge oportunity with Detmer. She had every reason to hate Michael, frankly Michael's actions got a lot of her friends killed and scared her forever. In the first episode of them back together she glared at Michael. Then she forgave Michael in two seconds and sat with her. It was so lame and a bad piece of writing.

Then they teased that she had PTSD or something worse. Then basically she went to the doctor and he asked if she wanted help or to talk, and basically she's nope, I'm fine.

They don't develop the other characters, they're not interesting, Now all Detmer does is show how awesome of a pilot she is and does what Michael says.

Saru, again a pretty much wasted character. Was the Captain and now he's going to come back and be her what XO, wait that's Tilly.

They just rush through other characters to give Michael more time.

Tilly is a cardboard cut out, they wrecked her with her Michael you're awesome you should be Captain Speech. Or the even better we have five minutes of oxygen left, lets hold a meeting so I can tell you all that I love you.

Even Stamets was utterly wrecked at the end of last year. With the whole, Michael's broken my trust with her actions. Oh well back to engineering to say Science F ya in tune with other engineers.

While Kirk and Sisko, and to an extent Janeway and even Archer were the prime focus of the show. The other people in those series counted, did something, contributed to wins, suffered losses, did smart things, did stupid things, did interesting things, were fully formed characters.

In Discovery the background characters are meaningless. You could literally kill them all off and replace them and nobody would notice, or feel bad about it, or mourn it, their deaths would be meaningless, because frankly they are meaningless.

They need to change the theme of discovery to.
