To an extent, but there's room for nuance. Some goals ooze of a player pulling the team up emotionally when they need it most.

was one that truly really stood out as "captainly". He put the team on his back that night, on a four game losing streak, and refused to let that become a five game losing streak by simply showing up and having a superstar "winning is the only option" type of night.
That's a leadership quality that a 3rd liner or stay at home D can't replicate barring flukes.
IMO Mangiapane shouldn't be the captain only because he scores goals, but combined with all the other attributes about his game, he can also score goals when the team truly needs a spark... he has that x-factor that you want in a captain.
