I seem to recall Turek admitting afterwards, in interviews, that he tried to change his game after signing his big contract extension, instead of just sticking to what got him there. Before the signing, he was a bargain-bin goalie who played like a multimillionaire. After, he was a multimillionaire who played like a bargain-bin goalie.
There were other factors, of course, but the Flames' season was basically over from the moment their goaltending switched off.
