Benning has
acquired quite a few talented players within the division. Toffoli from L.A., OEL and Garland from Arizona, Schmidt from Vegas, and even Baertschi and Granlund from Calgary if you wanna reach. He's given up some valuable assets to divisional teams in each of those trades, too. I can't remember if he was the Canucks' GM when Kesler was traded to Anaheim, but if so that would be another key example.
I can't believe I'm about to praise Benning here, but refusing to make major trades within your division is dumb. Obviously you don't want to trade an established franchise player to your #1 rival in the midst of both your cup windows, but I wouldn't call Brock Boeser a franchise player
