The panick-hoarding is one of the things that irritates me most about people's reactions to these situations (including early covid). Sure, you rush to get your share, maybe you succeed. But by accumulating as much as you can manage, you potentially deny that resource to some person passing through who just needs to get home.
If you live in an urban area where transit exists and you can use simple resourceful thinking to make do, it makes the hoarding rather selfish and unnecessary. Really reflects our true nature when push comes to shove. Maybe the post-apocalypse films weren't that far off about how far people could spiral in such a circumstance.
