Good lord, the shutout didn’t just happen in the third period. I’m talking about the whole night, and the expectations going in. Yes, Calgary is a much better team. But so is TB, Washington, Pittsburgh, Boston, Toronto and even Edmonton.
It wasn’t a shutout where he faced 40 shots or something, but I dare say most shutouts are at least partly because of great team defence. It’s still true that right around one of every ten shots gets in on most goalies. It didn’t happen last night.
