It’s not just ‘trust the opponent won’t elevate the puck’, the gloves sit above the pads and forward to mitigate a good chunk of that. Vertical angles matter. Ideally nothing under, nothing through. Basically think that if the puck had eyes, how much of the net does it see?
And let’s be clear, Markstrom was perfect tonight, just not particularly challenged
