If Jack Eichel got up off the mad scientist's slab tomorrow, he would put the Golden Knights $5.8 million over the cap. That's with Pacioretty and Bischoff still on LTIR.
But Pacioretty is expected to return before Eichel, and they will have to clear $2.8 million of cap space just to activate him. Then they'll need another $10 million for Eichel later on.
The players on that payroll as presently constituted are
never going to play together as a team. They will have to cut significant pieces before the trade deadline.
