I hope some people had the opportunity to tune into Calgary Planning Commission. If you haven't it will be on a video archive soon and I'll provide the link. It will give you a lot of insight on the design, what went into the review. It's worth your time.

Agreed. My girlfriend was consulted by the City on the design (along with most other significant developments) from a CPTED perspective - Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. As a fan with a vested interest in the new arena it was fun to discuss the plans with her. I am proud that the majority of her recommendations were incorporated into this final design.
I am very pleased with the plans and can't wait, after all these years, for a new arena to come to fruition. Well done CSEC and the City for making this happen.
