This is a thin blueline. So much junk up front I don’t agree they can trade a top pairing Dman right now just not expendable. Is Zadorov or Valimaki now in the top 4? Kylington goes from press box to number 1 LHD in 15 games?
I am not with you there when I see so many worse contracts contributing less.
I would prefer to buy out Monahan next summer then ship Hanifin out unless we see leaps and bounds improvement from Valimaki

I'm not saying they should trade him right now. The Flames aren't in cap hell just yet. It's a suggestion for next season. Teams who are in tough/tight cap situations have to compensate by taking hits elsewhere and in my opinion, Hanifin's position might have to be one of those. Can the Flames trade Hanifin and find a much cheaper comparable? Yes, I think it's possible.
Whereas, if the Flames tried to do the same with Gaudreau, very unlikely to go well.
