We don't really know the discussions between Gaudreau and Treliving prior to the season but if JG gave Treliving every indication he'd extend at a reasonable price, I'm not sure JG refusing to sign is 100% on Brad.

Brad is not unique to these circumstances all of his peers have had the same challenges. It is not a hindsight thing either I think you go back you will have a lot of posters and people stating this needed a resolution prior to that MNTC kicking in. When that didn’t happen it felt like a deal would of happened in the summer and nothing has happened on that front. What has happened though is many of the other high profile pending UFA’s have re-signed with their teams which has only driven Johnny’s value up in the market place as the premier UFA.
For a team that has not won in the first round in 6 years and missed the playoffs last year I think walking your best player to free agency is unacceptable. Brad gave Johnny all the leverage and he squeezed Johnny last negotiation when he had the leverage. As of right now this situation is all on Brad.
