With the construction this year on the TCH and other highways, the wildfires exposed how reliant we were on a few mountain passes for a giant chunk of our national economy (rail & road). This just took that and made it 10x worse, sweet jesus.
As an earlier poster mentioned, really highlights how behind the times we are. Europe building giant tunneled highways 10s of kilometers through mountains, yet here we are with large swaths of the TCH as single lane crummy highways.
Never mind the fact the "overbuilt" section of this whole area - the coqe - is absolutely f'd. I suspect most spots can be filled and repaved much quicker than people imagine, but the bridges, etc, will take a while...
If you guys thought the traffic on the 93 diversion due to the Golden TCH was a bad delay.....
