This is a national issue that demands the federal government's full support and attention. This is going to be a nightmare for a long time no doubt at a time when the economy and the supply chain can least afford it.
I don't think people are understanding the extent of the damage to the food system, I would assume tens of thousands of animals have perished in this. The level of damage to crops, farms, processing plants and more I assume is massive.
While we are at it, we need to have a very very real conversation about the quality of infrastructure we have in Canada that is critically important. Far too many stretches along major transport routes are in poor shape, lack proper mobile phone coverage, have single lane stretches and a whole host more.
It still seems absolutely absurd to me that we have such a large section of Canada's #1 highway in single lane formation from Golden, BC to Kamloops. This is a national economic and safety issue and we are a G8 nation and it's 2021.
I understand the cost and the timeframe for getting these things done but at the end of the day it needs to be done and it has taken way too long for this to occur and is now happening at a snail's pace.
Canada needs to think big and quite playing games. I always wonder why friends lose cell coverage when driving to Inveremere, BC and the response is always the same. "Your dealing with Park's Canada and they can't figure it out with the mobile phone companies"
Basic cell phone coverage is a needed in 2021.
