The BC Ministry of Transportation already has added language to their road design guidelines about "climate change adaptation". Essentially, major roadways see much more emphasis to design around handling harsher weather - a 1 in 200 year event instead of 1 in 100 year event, as an over simplification. That doesn't guarantee that there won't be disruptions during these storms, but it should reduce the likelihood of losing access for weeks on major routes.
