To whit you're right, a team can afford to have one purely defensive defenseman on its roster, especially on its third pair where they won't be dragging down the offensive zone opportunities of the top nine forwards on a consistent basis.
But we already have that - it's Gudbranson and he can make an outlet pass.

Oh, I wasn’t saying anyone should be purely defensive. I’m saying the analysis needs to consider roles and not just assume equality among stats for players in different roles.
