I mean I have heard countless interviews with players saying similar. Some players spend their whole careers trying to prove that teams that passed on them made a mistake.
As a lifelong Flames fan I would be more loyal to a team that used an asset to get me into their organization

I agree with you, but while the Flames thought he was worth a pick, they then locked up the right side of blueline for the next three years. Likewise, the Hurricanes traded for him, while having a pretty congested right side D themselves.
I'm also highly suspicious of Rangers tampering while he was a college player. Don't want to get all libellous but I don't trust that organization to leave other teams' college prospects to their own devices.
