You can switch up Directors, you shouldnt because most of the time they like to do their own thing, granted, a trilogy like this is a huge ask for one guy but it can be done.
But have a plan.
"This is the story, here is how it starts, here are the key plot points we have to hit, you can do other things so long as you hit these key points."
Ultimately though....the characters were boring, nobody cared about them, they were never developed they had too many of them and they didnt have anything for them to do.
I've said it before...you look at the beginning of The Force Awakens all the way to the end of Rise of Skywalker....all of these things have happened, all these people killed, all this stuff destroyed and.....
Basically nothing happened. They are right back to where they started from.

The thing I liked the least about it was that it took a huge universe like the star wars universe and made it seem impossibly small. Part of that was the total lack of character development while wedging them all in. It seemed like the characters existed solely for this story rather than being actual people in a functional universe. E.G. captain Phasma. Why?
