I don't want to get into it, considering I'm one of those people butthurt about not getting Eichel, but:
Darryl Sutter's teams have always had the following:
- Excellent puck-moving defensemen (Whether it was Jordan Leopold in '04, Doughty/Voynov/Muzzin in '12 and/or '14, Kylington/Hanifin/Tanev/Andersson in '21)
- Strong crease clearing PK defensemen (Whether Regehr in '04, Willie Mitchell in '12, or... Gudbranson in '21)
- Two-way centres (Craig Conroy, Anze Kopitar, Mike Richard, Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm)
- Centres who bring speed down the middle (Matthew Lombardi, Anze Kopitar, (not the fastest, but his IQ and puck skills made it happen anyways), Jeff Carter, Dillon Dube)
- Sizey Situational centres (Stephane Yelle, Jarret Stoll, Anze Kopitar, ...Sean Monahan? lol)
- Big netfront style wingers (Jarome Iginla, Dustin Brown, Matthew Tkachuk)
- Elite Forwards Period (Jarome Iginla, Anze Kopitar, Johnny Gaudreau)
- Great scoring wingers (Jarome Iginla, Marian Gaborik, Tyler Toffoli, Andrew Mangiapane)
- Clutch AF wingers who have won the cup before (Martin Gelinas, Justin Williams, ...Milan Lucic...?)
And all that, has allowed guys like Kipprusoff, Quick, and now hopefully Markstrom, to have the best seasons of their careers in net.
But Jack Eichel would still have made me a lot more confident that we can hang with the likes of Colorado and Florida, teams who are tiers above this Rangers team.
