I got offered 4.5 percent increase in salary and position in a non COVID impacted industry just now and I’m livid to be honest. Beat some sense into me and or let me know what you think a reasonable percentage would be.
Look at it this way:
1) Do you really want this promotion because it will be more interesting work than what you do now? If yes, take the raise and do the job. More raises will come with better times, probably.
2) Do you like your current job? Would the new responsibilities and headaches make the promotion without a lot more money questionable? If yes, tell your boss that you don't want the promotion and that you enojy what you're doing now. See if they offer you a lot more money than 4.5%.
