There are lots of reasons to be frustrated with Treliving - the poor coaching hires, the bad free agent signings, and a few questionable trades. However, the Eichel lack of trade isn't one...at least not to me. Treliving certainly made a push for him. The problem is you can't force a team to make a trade with you. If the Sabres' needs weren't met by what the Flames could offer, it isn't the Flames' fault. The Sabres wanted a young, up and coming player who was cheap and cost-controlled plus a good prospect and a first round pick. The Flames had the prospect and the first-rounder but not the cost controlled young NHL player.
The Flames couldn't force the Sabres to take Monahan who is 2 years older, 1.6 million more expensive and has 3 years less left on his contract than Tuch or Tkachuk who is due $9 million next year and likely a FA after that plus he's likely going to be a very tough guy to re-sign.
