yeah the 87-88 team was both highly similar, yet distinct from the cup team the year later. the offence on 87-88 was ridiculous. to the best of my knowledge to this day the highest scoring team in league history that didn't have either Gretzky or Orr on it. Yet two trades 6 months apart with St. Louis shipped out Hull and Bullard and brought back Gilmour, Ramage, Wamsley and Mark Hunter- offence went down but the team that was resulted was far more complete
