Pretty small sample size compared to the previous 4 seasons track record where they have probably been the 2nd or 3rd best team in the league overall.

I wouldn't say it's cocky, I think most of us here are comfortable in saying the flames can't keep this pace up and are optimistic that a good level of success can be sustained. One difference to years past is that the underlying stats are pretty good, and they are generally playing with the lead rather than banking on being the comeback kids.
Likewise, Vegas is where they are due to their injury problems. And since their big acquisition wont be ready until the Olympic break-ish (or later if it's believed they can pull a Tampa), it means they need to get back to form without him, which is compounded by how many big names are out of service at the moment.
