Sometimes you need to be willing to "lose" a trade to get the guy you want.

In this situation I think what sucks is that it doesn't even feel like Vegas had to overpay.

Krebs is good prospect but I'm not sure how much better than Zary he truly is, Tuch is okay but may be a bit overrated from playing on a good team, and a 2022 1st with top 10 protection is completely reasonable.

To put it another way, you need to fully understand what you are missing in order to be successful. True in any deal, in any context. Once you have clarity on that, you go get it. Doesn't mean you take the first option that comes along but the club has known for a long time it is short on high end talent up front in order to be a contender.
