But I am also tired of this narrative. We heard the same #### in 2011, and in 2014, and in 2017, and now. Every three years: But look, our drafting looks like it's gotten better the last few seasons!! before everyone busts and we're left in the exact same spot.
It's tiring.

Just on this roster alone:
Tkachuk, Monahan, Gaudreau, Backlund, Mangiapane, Dube, Kylington, Andersson, Valimaki. Plus they drafted a Norris winner that refused to sign here which sucks.
If you can't see that the drafting has been better the last couple years then that's because you just don't want to see it.
In the 10 years since Sutter was fired as GM (2011-2021 Drafts) the Flames rank as a top 5 team when it comes to drafting by pretty much any metric.
Byron Bader has a great model that looks at this:
Number of Picks: 64 (22nd)
NHLer Drafted: 9 (T-3rd)
NHLer Success Rate: 14.1% (T-2nd)
Number of Stars: 3 (T-5th)
Star Success Rate: 4.7% (6th)
Issue isn't the team's drafting, it's that we haven't had enough picks. If there is a single reason that Treliving shouldn't be fired it's because he has actually set up a pretty good scouting process...just needs to get those scouts more picks.
