My initial reaction is similar to how I reacted to the Hamilton, Ferland, Fox for Hanifin and Lindholm. I thought we got good players, but lost the trade.
I underestimated the players we got. Now Carolina only has prospects form the Fox trade we get Lindholm and Hanifin for 3 more years.
The same applies to the Eichel scenario. We get Eichel for 4.5 years. We have control of Tkachuk for 1.5 more years. As for the prospects/former first rounder it seems like it's a lot of value. I also wonder if Dube/Kylington still counts as prospects(one of the non 1st round prospects).
Honestly I don't put much value into the first this year, nor do I think that Valimaki/Pelletier/Zary are going to become elite players in the league. Meanwhile, Eichel is definitely an elite game changer the Flames have been lacking.
Can the Flames hold on for 3-4 months without Eichel and Tkachuk and stay in the playoff picture, that remains to be seen... That said, I wanted change all of the off-season, so I am all in on this move.
