It's possible that that contract uncertainty is why the flames are offering Chucky. If they have little confidence he does more than sign his QO next year and then walk to UFA (St. Louis) then getting him off the books does a lot for making Eichel fit. It also is one of the few existing contracts that might have interest for Buffalo, as it gives them a marketable player for this year, with an option to QO for next year if they are interested, or to sell off for more pieces at the deadline if they wish. It also would relieve the sticking point of retaining salary as Chucky plus a roster player will equal the large majority of Eichel's salary, meaning Calgary can probably send someone down just to get Eichel on roster, and then put Eichel on LTIR.
