I mentioned it in a proposal in the the other thread, but if Tkachuk is indeed the key piece going back, that leaves a pretty big hole on the RW, where he has been playing. I would sign Bobby Ryan as a temporary stop gap in the meantime. Ryan has 7 goals and 7 assists in 33 games last season. That is roughly a 17 goal, 34 point pace over 82 games, which isn't bad. He was on a PTO a month ago with Detroit, so I don't think he wants to quit yet. I imagine he would take the league minimum at this point.
I love Tkachuk, but I don't see him as a lifer on the Flames. Too many red flags about his intentions to move on and with Eichel, Mangiapane, Markstrom, and Gaudreau (hopefully) eating up $30 million in cap space, I can't see the Flames meeting Tkachuk's demands. Buffalo on the other hand, has a lot of cap space to dedicate to him and I think he would be worth it for them. The flight risk for him in Buffalo is probably significantly less than in Calgary IMO.
