From the Buffalo side, they need to add significant salary to stay cap compliant, I think it’s somewhere around $5M needs to go back to Buffalo for them stay above the floor.

Putting players on LTIR is fine, yeah - but even just messing around with their roster today - when they get everyone off LTIR they’re $1.2M over the cap, and because they are in LTIR they aren’t accumulating cap on the daily. This deal would be complicated as hell for Vegas UNLESS they were going to put someone (or more than one) on LTIR with the intention of leaving them their until the end of the season. If they were to put someone on LTIR just to buy time so they could make other deals, they’d lose all bargaining power in the trade(s) to follow because everyone in the league would know Vegas needs to dump to be compliant. The easiest way for Vegas to do it is dollars in/dollars out, but given how hurt they are, doing dollars in/dollars out is likely to have a significant negative impact on the fortunes of this season.

From the Flames side, it’s a simple situation. About $9M has to go out to bring in Jack’s $10M. Flames aren’t using LTIR, and are accumulating cap daily - meaning the longer this goes, the easier it becomes as well.

…at the end of the day, Vegas is clever enough that they may figure it out. Hopefully Treliving puts together a simple package loaded with futures that entices Buffalo to go with it.
