I think the problem isn't so much that he is over-rated as it is that the effects of his injury and pending surgery are under-estimated. He will likely be less dominant after his surgery, or maybe not play at all. None of us know what kind of player Eichel will be post-surgery, but I doubt he will be a top 5-7 centre in the NHL again.
A lot of people are going on as if the team trading for Eichel will be getting pre-injury Eichel. They won't be, and the problem in consummating a trade is that teams aren't really sure what they'll be getting, while Buffalo insists on getting value equivalent to what pre-injury Eichel would have been worth.
