Really? I've been predicting this goes into 2022 for months. There's no rush on the Sabres side to complete this right now. Things won't get urgent for them until after the season. Friedman said weeks ago that the Sabres felt their patience with Ristolainen paid off because they ended getting a much better return than they were getting the years before when teams like the Flames were kicking the tires. It seems like they are perfectly fine playing the long game.
