I think that's something big that's really being missed in all the hype.
edit: at least I haven't seen anyone really mention it. A lot of talk of the potential recovery scenarios for Eichel, but what about the team that was gutted and is waiting for him to recover?
Eichel isn't helping any team for the majority of the season. Anything you move off your roster is going to create a hole. Likely a pretty big one, until Eichel is healthy.
I don't know what the recovery time is for his procedure, but how does 1/2 a season without a second line sound to those who want to pull the trigger? What prospects that we have left are going to be able to come in and play 2nd line minutes? - hell even 3rd line minutes would be a challenge for most of our pool - that's why they're not on the squad.
Potentially throwing a season away for future promise, when the assembled team already has not had the desired success under your tenure as GM also does not sound like a strong career move.
I don't think the team, nor the GM are in any position to entertain a trade for a guy who is going to miss a large portion, if not the entire, season.
